Citrus Circles Diaper Pail Deodorizing Disks

Only Slightly Better Than Nothing2

I bought these to use with my Safety 1st diaper pail with disposable diapers. They fit very nicely in the diaper pail lid which is nice. And they smell good a little like oranges. But they barely work. For about the first week the orange smell is very overwhelming in the nursery. After that the room smells like a combination of oranges and stinky diapers with the stinky diaper smell finally winning out completely by week 3. I guess they work okay but not by deodorizing or neutralizing any smells. It just has a very strong smell in itself. There has to be something that works better than these things. I'm going to keep looking.More detail ...

Safety 1st Simple Step Diaper Pail

Not so good if you're using cloth.3

I purchased this pail for use with cloth diapers. This pail works but has some flaws.

I like the foot pedal but it doesn't work all that well it basically lifts it up enough to squeeze the diaper in. I feel it should lift higher so that I'm not struggling to insert a diaper.

The pail is made to use standard size grocery store bags but they are a tight squeeze and I can barely fit one days worth of cloth diapers in the pail. They are larger than disposable diapers so I'm not sure how many disposables it could hold. Trying to get a standard size grocery bag on it is such a pain (and in my case wasteful since I use cloth diapers that I have to wash) that I made a liner from PUL (the waterproof material cloth diapers are made from) with an elastic top that goes in the wash with my diapers. It fits great although the heavier cloth material makes it more difficult for the metal rod/lever to lift the lid but it is not much different than with a plastic bag.

This pail has a compartment in the top with holes for what I'm assuming to be an air freshener. I use a piece of an old cut up t-shirt with a couple drops of essential oil (orange lemon lavender etc.) to give the pail a nicer smell when it's open. I haven't smelled any odors except for when I open the lid. Of course this may be because I have to empty it every day since it does not hold that many diapers. It looks taller in the pictures (to me) than it is in person. (Someone suggested to me to use this pail for scooped kitty litter when we're out of diapers- just a thought)More detail ...

Diaper Genie II Pail System

Better than the original but still some design flaws2

I'm really surprised by all of the rave reviews of this product as I don't feel it lives up to the hype. I supposed if you are scoring it on improvements alone you can give it more stars but in some ways it falls short of the original. I'll give you a pro and con list so you can make an informed decision.

Pro:

It holds more than the original (I think).

Con:

Odor control: Good until you put in another diaper and get a nose full of the previous diaper. The original Genie twisted between each diaper so you didn't smell the previous diaper. This one spring locks to an open bag so you could potentially have several stewing bad diapers inside.

Cutting Mechanism: Better than the very bad original model but still needs help. You cut it by pushing the bag bundle against a blade slot inside the pail. The blade is only on one side so you have to push just right against the blade to get a good cut. It often requires a couple of passes. A better design would have been two counteropposing blades for a perfect cut no matter how you put the bag in.

New Bags: This was a blatant money making scheme. Since you use less of the bags because you don't twist in between each diaper they gave you less bags. They could have easily designed this with the old bag system which would have allowed you to go even longer prior to changing bags. Clearly that would not have allowed enough bag replacements so they force you to buy the new smaller one. The bags are also not scented like the stage 2's were and are not as readily available in supermarkets like the originals.

Unsanitary: This unit seems less sanitary than the original as you have to physically push the bad diaper through the spring loaded trap. The spring trap is firm to keep the smell in but as a result you have to touch the interior of the bag push it through. If you could just drop it in without having to push it through it would have been better. Ever have those really full diapers? Picture one of those and then push it into spring loaded trap door. If there is any resistance from previous diapers pushing back from the other side (and there usually is) your full diaper tends to squirt!

Thus my quest for the perfect diaper pail continues. This is my fourth pail and all seem to fall short. My daughter will likely be potty trained by the time I find one that really works well. I'm currently testing the First Years Odor Free pail and it seems to be working better.More detail ...

Kushies "On the Go" Wet Bag - 2 Pack - Large

Love em!5

After reading the reviews about the bags not being very big I paid attention to how large "large" is... they're not huge but they hold quite a few diapers in each bag. I carry both bags around with me - one for the diapers if there's nowhere to throw them out right away and one for dirty food bowls spoons etc. (by the way the person that is talking about one of the bags being tiny must have purchased the other bag pack where you see the "big" bag and then a cute little postage stamp bag in the picture - this set has two "large" bags as it claims).

The one thing that I was worried about when I got them was that there was just a draw-string closing mechanism. I thought - oh man this isn't going to keep poopy diapers in and smell from coming out. So being the geeky scientist that I am I did the experiment that all of you will not want to do - I put a soiled diaper in the bag drew it closed and waited. For quite a few days just to see how smelly it would get. It never got smelly. I was flabbergasted. So I'm buying a set for Christmas gifts for all the new parents I know.

Seriously these bags are great! And the best part they're really reasonably priced!More detail ...

Sassy Baby Disposable 200 Counts Diaper Sacks

A great way to deal with dirty diapers5

I always carry these in my diaperbag so that I can dispose those used diapers in a friendly way. If there is no trash can around I can easily hold on to this nice little blue package until I find one. These work so well I don't even bother with the more expensive diaper disposal cans for the nursery. It eliminates the chore of empting that stinky heavy thing. I just toss them in the kitchen trash and haven't had any problem of nasty smells. I always have them at home so replenishing the diaperbag is a cinch. They've come to the rescue for other wet items since they were available in my diaper bag. They are sized big enough to fit a complete baby outfit or a baby blanket or even two stinky diapers. Compare the price of 4 boxes of these to the expensive diaper pal system and you will come out ahead.More detail ...

Playtex Diaper Genie II Refill 3 Pack

it works..forget about the twistaway type..5

It is exactly what you find in stores like Walmart and it works just the same. When I bought this at Amazon it cost roughly the same as Walmart (may be a few cents less). It ships free with 2-day shipping as well. I bought it here mostly because I like amazon and the shopping here in general.

I have diaper genie elite as well as the 'twistaway' model. Having used both for a couple of years now I would say don't bother with twistaway model it just isnt worth that 10$ you save initially. It is much harder to use and in my experience runs out of cartridge much sooner. The elite system is much simpler to use with just one hand.

Diaper Genie II Refills - Pack of 3

They work but these are expensive3

I find they are actually less expensive elsewhere. I wish they had a little more give. The diaper genie container is wide enough to hold a tub of diapers twice the size around. It needs to be emptied way more often than necessary because the tub is so narrow.More detail ...
